Goa often conjures images of vibrant nightlife, loud music, and bustling beaches. However, my husband and I embarked on a different kind of journey, one focused on relaxation and rejuvenation amid Goa’s natural beauty.
Goa: An Invigorating Journey
Our adventure began in Vagator. Unusually tranquil in the morning, so unseemly North Goa. Known for its serene atmosphere, Vagator is home to the historic Chapora Fort, built by the Adil Shahi dynasty. This fort, made famous by the iconic scene from the film *Dil Chahta Hai*, offers panoramic views of the western coastline that are simply breathtaking. We visited the majestic fort in the afternoon. Perched on a cliff, it provides a stunning vantage point over expansive beaches and lush green surroundings. I remember us sitting by the edge of the cliff overlooking the Arabian sea with the gentle breeze tousling my hair, creating a peaceful retreat from everyday stresses. It felt like we were miles away from the world’s troubles, simply lost in the moment.

As night fell, we strolled leisurely along the expansive, moonlit Vagator Beach, chatting away with my beloved while faint strains of music drifted from a nearby resort. Unlike Anjuna and Baga Beaches, Vagator was notably quiet at night. There was no loud music or raucous partying. Instead, we enjoyed a peaceful dinner at an old restaurant, which served excellent Thukpa.

After soaking in the sights at Vagator, we set out for a more secluded corner of Goa – Little Cola Beach in South Goa. We took to local transport to reach Cola. Since the journey was quite long, we enjoyed a vegetarian (Goan) lunch along the way. Though it requires a bit of effort to reach, the journey is well worth it. Little Cola beach offers a serene and untouched Goan experience, perfect for those seeking solitude. It felt like we were in our own little paradise. The beach, a canvas of pristine beauty, was perfect for photoshoot. We captured countless moments, each click a testament to its serene charm. Hand in hand, we took a romantic stroll at dusk with the waves gently lapping at our feet creating a magical atmosphere. We lay side by side on the soft sand, gazing at the night sky, listening to the rhythmic lullaby of the sea and savoring some crunchy Chakli bites. What more could one desire?

Mornings at Little Cola Beach are equally enchanting. We watched local fishermen get ready for their day, a charming sight that added a touch of everyday life to our escape. We even took a short hike to Main Cola Beach, where we indulged in some early-morning kayaking. Every paddle stroke unveiled a new perspective and a chance to connect with nature’s rhythm. The peacefulness of the backwaters, especially without the crowds, made it an unforgettable experience.

After enjoying breakfast at the resort, we headed to the airport. As we bid farewell to this coastal haven, the memories linger like sea mist—beautiful, fleeting, and unforgettable. In essence, our Goa experience was a refreshing departure from the typical travel narrative, focusing instead on the peaceful, natural side of this beautiful state.

How to Reach Goa?
Getting to Goa is quite straightforward. You can hire a taxi from either Goa International Airport (Dabolim) or Manohar International Airport (Mopa). If you prefer driving yourself, car and scooter rentals are readily available in Mapusa and Panjim. Additionally, local buses are a viable option; you can catch a bus to various North Goa beaches from Mapusa Bus Stand. For travel between North and South Goa, state-run and private buses operate from Mapusa to Panjim and then from Panjim to Madgaon. However, reaching Little Cola Beach requires either hiring a cab or driving yourself, as the final 2 kilometers lack a proper road.
Where to Stay and What to Eat?
In Vagator, you’ll find a range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly lodgings to luxurious stays, along with a variety of dining choices. Beachside shacks offer local Goan cuisine, including must-try dishes like Fish Rawa Fry, Goan Fish Curry, and the delectable dessert Dodol. Other notable dishes include Squid Recheado (too sour for my palate), Portuguese Serradura and lip-smacking Goan Chakli. Vagator also has restaurants serving high-quality Asian and European fare.
For a stay at Little Cola Beach, you will find only two resorts that offer stunning views and exclusive access to this secluded area. However, be prepared for higher rates and limited dining options, as these resorts will be your primary choice for meals.

Best Time to Visit
Goa is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is from October to March. This period offers pleasant weather, making it ideal for exploring. For Little Cola Beach specifically, it’s best to avoid the monsoon season, as the access path can become extremely muddy and challenging.

Preserving Goa’s Natural Beauty
As you enjoy the serene landscapes and vibrant local culture of Goa, it’s important to consider how you can contribute to preserving its natural beauty for future generations. Embracing sustainable tourism practices helps protect the environment and supports the local community. Here are some eco-friendly tips to enhance your visit:
- Reduce Waste: Opt for reusable items such as water bottles, shopping bags, and containers. Be mindful of litter and dispose of waste properly to keep the beaches and natural areas clean.
- Support Local and Sustainable Businesses: Dine at restaurants that use locally sourced ingredients and support traditional Goan farming practices. Shop at local markets and buy handcrafted products to support local artisans and reduce the carbon footprint associated with mass-produced goods.
- Use Public Transport or Rent Eco-Friendly Vehicles: Reduce your carbon footprint by using public transport, cycling, or renting electric scooters and bikes instead of traditional motor vehicles. This not only minimizes emissions but also allows you to experience Goa in a more leisurely and environmentally friendly manner.
Safety and Travel Tips
Goa’s tropical climate can be quite hot, especially during the day. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. To avoid skin burns use sun protection creams, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, umbrella and wear comfortable clothing.
Be cautious when swimming at Cola beach.
